I wish I lived closer to you! I have rented 4 old houses and decorated on a shoe string budget and made my kitchens look amazing! All my landlords loved me to the point that they never raised my rent and were excellent references when I had to go! You don't need Consultants for your kitchen, expensive cabinets, lighting, etc. When I saw your kitchen, I already knew what I'd do and it would cost you under $1,000.00. Re: having company stay so you are forced to get stuff done. When i first got married, my mothet in law suggested i host 2 events a year- spread out- at my house. She always did Christmas and fourth of July [American]. She said it forces her to severely deep clean, organize, and finish all projects. Best advice ever- that and always change your air filters the day the electric bill comes in! Just a reminder to do it once a month and you dont forget. 27 years later and i still do it. ❤ congratulations. I just found your channel and subscribed. My dream has always been to find an old house to fix up so i am vicariously enjoying watching you! Thank you.

I think that a few changes could really help you. Try to whittling a slightly bigger piece of wood as it will be much easier to hold. It will take quite a while for your hands to grow stronger. I can tell that you don't have much hand strength from the way you are holding the knife (oops, I just saw that you have joint problems). Watch some videos on the different cuts used in whittling, which will help a LOT. You chose a folding pocket knife which is a compromise between ergonomics and portability. It's an excellent knife, but one of Flexcut's fixed blade knives, like their Detail Knife, would probably be much easier for you to hold. Next, try use the smaller blade more instead of the big one. You also need to keep the blades VERY, VERY sharp using a strop, which is super important as a sharp knife is much safer. You will need to strop about every 20 minutes. That's a skill in itself and RUclips is definitely your friend. While basswood is fantastic, try whittling some green wood (freshly cut). Just a 1" diameter stick taken straight off any tree (use a cheap folding saw) will do. As the wood hasn't been dried it is much softer and easy to cut with your whittling knife. You will be surprised how different the experience is. By the way IMHO the danger part is good, because it forces you to focus. 😉 All the best from a Scottish whittler.

But the one about the flooding in the basement stuck with me because if it has happened once it will happen again. Maybe digging a drain and installing a waterpump with a generator attached would be a good idea for another time! I am invested in your house surviving at this point 😂❤🎉

You should try spoon carving it’s basically just whittling, except your carving a spoon with something called a hook, knife, and the knife you have it’s pretty fun
